#MyCannonsburg Photo Contest

We’ve made a huge effort to redefine Cannonsburg and make it a place for everyone. We launched our #MyCannonsburg campaign earlier in the season encouraging everyone to start tagging their social media posts with #MyCannonsburg so we can experience Cannonsburg with each and every person who comes out.

We love seeing the experience people have and how they make Cannonsburg their own. After our skiers and riders started tagging more and more, we realized #MyCannonsburg had some potential.

We wanted to take it a step further than just tagging. We decided to make a photo contest. Whether you’re a professional photographer or a professional Instagram-er, submit your best original shots to Cannonsburg for a chance to win. Every week, we’ll post some favorites on Facebook!

Rules: Keep it clean, make sure Cannonsburg is involved in some way, and try and show what Cannonsburg means to you. The more creative, the better! (MyCannonsburg can be all lowercase, all uppercase, a little of both… whatever fits your fancy.) Submit as many photos as you like.

The deadline for submissions is March 3rd. After that, a panel of judges will select their favorites. We’ll post those in an album on Facebook for public voting. We’ll pick winners in a few different categories and award prizing from Cannonsburg and our sponsors!

How to submit:
Instagram: Simply tag your photo with #MyCannonsburg
Facebook: Post your photo on our wall with #MyCannonsburg in the description
Email: Send an email to contest@cannonsburg.com with the subject line #MyCannonsburg

We look forward to seeing everyone’s submissions!

Finally Welcoming Winter

After a dramatic warm-up, temps have dropped bringing winter back to Cannonsburg. We’ve re-established a massive base which is allowing us to open two of our most loved Cannonsburg staples – the Triple and the Cannon Park.
Last season, the Triple chair remained closed. Extremely mild temps forced us to focus snow-making on all of the main runs which did not give us an opportunity to make snow on Triple.

We are looking at Friday night or Saturday morning as the opening time for Triple. We currently have “whalebacks” – massive mounds of snow – that need to be leveled out and groomed to fully open Triple.

jumplineThursday (1/24) we will be speed-testing our jumpline. If everything is perfect, we will be opening the Cannon Park on Thursday. If we have any tweaks to make, we will likely open it Friday.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work around the clock to make snow. Both of these assets require a great deal of snowmaking and grooming.

We look forward to being 100% open and seeing everyone enjoying the Triple and the Cannon Park!

Conditions, Racing, Thursday Night Sessions and the US Air Bag

We’ve got so much going on at Cannonsburg for everyone right now. High School Racing started last night, Adult race leagues start tonight, we’ve got Thursday Night Sessions beginning tomorrow and the US Air Bag will be on-site Friday through Sunday!

We’ve received a lot of questions about the upcoming warm weather and how this will affect operations at Cannonsburg.
We wanted to debunk a few myths and clear the air!
Blog ForecastWhile there is warm weather heading our way, it is nothing that will affect operations. Based on the current forecast, the worst weather will be early Friday morning. After that, a mild Saturday will be followed by normal winter temps allowing for snowmaking. What this means for our skiers and riders is Friday morning might not be the best, but this weekend will be amazing with spring-like temps and excellent conditions.
The cold temps next week will allow us to blow more snow and not only get our jumpline up, but finish building out the rest of our terrain parks!

IMG_1065Racing is in full effect for the season. High school racers were dominating Face last night on the Giant Slalom courses at max speeds. We love watching the racers and the community they have here at Cannonsburg! High School racing happens every Tuesday beginning at 4:30pm. Parents and friends are invited to hang out and watch racing every week. Their season ends February 7th.

Also beginning this week are Adult Race Leagues. The race league is a favorite for the 21+ crowd at Cannonsburg. Grab your skis or snowboards, pick your level of seriousness and come out for a guaranteed good time. Race Director John Losey loves the race league for its fun spirit and relaxed atmosphere. He points out while it is about the racing, it’s more about taking a break from work, school and life and coming out for a night of fun. It’s not too late to register! Check here for more information and stop into the main office to sign up!

Thursday Night Sessions
The Thursday night event series has become a favorite among riders at Cannonsburg.

Thursday-Night-Sessions_Poster11x17_RevThese mellow sessions are all about progressing and pushing yourself and your friends. Thursdays don’t fall into the “Contest” category, though we do give out some worthwhile prizing which we call as we see. Sometimes we’ll give prizing for a great trick, sometimes we’ll give it for the worst crash. Just depends, either way it’s all about having a good time.
Cannonsburg riders Logan Jamison and Harrison McIlhargey agreed the best part of TNS’s are the wings and the awesome vibes.
Oh yeah! Thursday nights $.50 wings and $2 pints are available afterwards in the Cedar Lounge. Cannonsburg is definitely the place to be on Thursday nights!

US Air Bag
For the first time ever, the US Air Bag will be at Cannonsburg. For those unfamiliar, here’s some info about the air bag. Basically, we build a large jump (14′ with a 45° trajectory) aimed at a massive air bag. The air bag is tough and resistant to the sharp edges on skis and snowboards. Riders can hit this jump and test out tricks, spins, double corks, triple back flips, whatever they want, without having to be as concerned about landing. Choose 3, 10 or 25 jumps with prices varying based on the number of jumps. This is a great learning opportunity and even if you’re not jumping it will be a great viewing experience.

We are approaching the most prime part of the season. Our parks will be completely built out soon, all of our clubs and groups are hitting the hill and every day, the conditions get better and better at Cannonsburg. Don’t miss out this season! Be sure to come take advantage of our amazing deals, great conditions, delicious food and an overall amazing winter experience!

Check out some of our favorite photos from the last few days at Cannonsburg!

So-Gnar is fun, like really REALLY fun. Normally the crew comes out for a two-day event 382940_336261443058612_816799314_nwhich includes a camp and a contest. Cannonsburg’s stop has grown so much they’ve decided to host two camps and one contest. Check out the Facebook event page!

The camp is pretty basic. Over the 407575_336261866391903_1366659633_ncourse of two days, riders of all levels partner up with coaches to up their game across the board. The rider to coach ratio is small to increase the level of learning. Campers are placed with riders of their same skill level for maximum progression. This year, riders can opt to do the Thursday/Friday camp session, the Saturday/Sunday camp session or attend all four days.

The So-Gnar Shred Circuit is one of the biggest, baddest events at Cannonsburg. Last year, we saw some of the most progression at the Shred Circuit. Kids397398_336262369725186_330400926_n of all ages and skill levels came out and completely threw down. This year, competitors can walk away with a ton of prizing ranging from a new Never Summer board to a trip to Winter Park, Colorado.

So-Gnar is always one of the most fun weekends of the year at Cannonsburg. We are always excited about events that get kids excited about snowboarding where they can be in a positive learning environment and expand their abilities. We’re hoping to see a massive turnout this year.
